Year of establishment: 1783. 

The botanical garden has been listed in the register of monuments of the city of Krakow since 1976 as an object of culture and horticultural art. It is the only garden in Krakow with a preserved fragment of the Baroque layout and many plant specimens from the early 19th century.

Didactic and science popularizing activities: The Botanic Garden conducts a wide range of educational activities at various levels:
  • didactic classes for students of biology and pharmacy at the Jagiellonian University, as well as other Krakow universities, e.g. University of Agriculture, Pedagogical University, Academy of Fine Arts,
  • biology lessons for schools of various levels,
  • apprenticeships for students of basic schools and agricultural and horticultural technicians,
  • popular science lectures (e.g. "Sunday meetings in the Botanical Garden" - in the winter season),
  • radio and television broadcasts,
  • exhibitions of painting and nature photography.
